The 2007 year has yielded assignments that have taken me to such diverse locations as deep into Australia's remote Simpson Desert, as well as the Baltic Sea States and Scandinavia. The famous Tall Ships Race had reached Stockholm by the time I was there.  This provided spectacular sea-faring subject matter from a vantage point in the midst of the action.

An expedition in May/June 2007 with several adventurous members of the Range Rover club took us through the Flinders Ranges and north into the ochre-coloured sands of Australia’s Simpson Desert. Remote it may be, but well worth the effort involved to record these colourful images.

Weddings don’t usually figure in my field of photography however a special request for an assignment in Stockholm in August 2007 was combined with several culture stops in the Baltic States including St Petersburg, and a scouting trip through Norway’s fjords.

Another cold weather journey to circumnavigate the island of Spitsbergen in Norway’s arctic north is scheduled for June 2008. This is timed in early summer when the sea ice is still largely intact and polar bears should be seen hunting for seals.

In late 2006 I visited the Kimberley region of north-western Western Australia mainly on a scouting mission for a return just after the "wet". The wet season was well past in mid-September and only a few of the roads presented water crossings. Although I didn’t have great expectations from a photographic perspective, the dry roads did allow relatively easy access to locations that don’t depend on the wet season for spectacular shots.  In particular I am referring to the Bungle Bungles in Purnululu National Park. These domed formations are stunning and display rich colours even when they have been dry for so long. It would take several weeks to explore the many valleys, caves and chasms that make up this massive place, although much of it is out of bounds for environmental or cultural reasons.  On this trip I also met a very knowledgeable John Findlay who runs 4-wheel-drive tours into the Victorian high country. This is also his backyard so he knows every peak and valley intimately. A link to his website has been added to my Links page.

"Lord Howe Island" off the coast of New South Wales together with "Southern Oceans and Antarctica" were the most notable assignments from 2005 and early 2006.
