| Having worked in the graphic arts since his teenage years, Malcolm has
a thorough appreciation of what attributes make up a good image. Over
this period his images have evolved from early snapshots to being a
recent finalist in the much-revered International Wildlife Photographer
of the Year competition. His goal is to eventually attain
that much-esteemed title, but meanwhile he continues to explore and
record images of nature’s wonders.
Since starting his own business his work has taken him to many
far-flung corners of our world and with his camera he has documented
these experiences. His
images reveal not just the place or the subject matter in isolation,
but often evoke the viewer’s imagination as to just what is beyond that
bend in the river, or to connect with the feelings being experienced by
the wildlife subject.
Malcolm shoots with both film and digital cameras. Although
preferring the results obtained with colour transparencies, the
increasing difficulty of getting film through airport security without
exposure to the potentially damaging x-rays has meant a greater
proportion of his photographs are now digital. Malcolm’s
wife Dorothy often accompanies him on his assignments and the extra
pair of hands is often needed when the action is really happening in
the field. The extra baggage allowance is also appreciated when equipment can be shared on flights.
Canon equipment has continued to be his preferred choice since he bought his first Canon Pellix SLR in the late sixties. Several generations of camera on, he now shoots exclusively with EOS system to produce the images he shares on this site.
